Swami's birthday celebrations at our Centre began with Omkar at 5.30 a.m. followed by Suprabhatam, Vedam, Namavali, bhajans and Arati.

The evening celebrations began at 7 p.m. with Vedam followed by bhajans.  The altar and Swami's chair had been beautifully decorated with flowers by dedicated members of the Centre.

After bhajans, an extract from Swami's Discourse entitled "Have Confidence in the God Within" was screened, followed by a video on Swami's 99th Birthday Theme Song.   The lighting of Swami's birthday cake and the singing of the birthday song followed.

Our Service Co-ordinator, Sis. Siew Choo then gave an inspirational talk of the seva activities she had undertaken both locally and overseas and an account of the personal trauma she faced when her son became critically ill and was bedridden.  Through her firm faith in Swami and guidance from Him, her son recovered and is now able to lead a normal life.

The evening concluded with a vegetarian dinner for all.

Thank you to Swami for His 99 years of Pure Love and Grace.

Bhagawan has said on numerous occasions that He will never forsake or disappoint His devotees and if we hold on to Him with faith and love, He will guard us, protect us and take us across the Ocean of Life.

Kuan Yin's Birthday

Video: An extract from the evening's bhajan

We celebrated Kuan Yin's birthday on the evening of Sunday, 31st March.  Prayers began with Veda chanting followed by bhajans, the recitation of "Om Mani Padme Hum" and "The Ten Vows of Kuan Yin".  There was a short talk on Kuan Yin's life and her mercy and compassion which led her to renounce her reward of eternal bliss in Heaven and to return to earth to help the poor and suffering.  As it was also an auspicious weekend with Good Friday and Easter Sunday in a row, the divine message that evening was from Swami's Discourse of 25th December 1979 entitled "On the Solemn Occasion of Easter, What Should We Remember and Dedicate Our Lives to?"

Christmas at NED

We had a joyous Christmas celebration on the morning of Monday, 25th December.  The large number of devotees who turned up (around 60) was more than we expected and we actually ran out of chairs and the latecomers had no choice but to sit on the floor!  We began with Veda chanting which was followed by bhajans, then English songs dedicated to Swami and wound up with a number of Christmas carols. All these songs were accompanied by a brother on the piano.  Our carollers had practised hard with him and sang with much gusto!  After prayers, our good old jolly Santa Claus played by one of our members, arrived and warmly greeted all the devotees with laughter and handshakes and distributed presents to them.  The morning ended with a vegetarian lunch for all in the community hall.
