Sunday lst October was a joyous evening as we gathered for the celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival. We began with Vedic chanting followed by bhajans and mantras, after which we performed the "Chuan Deng" ceremony which represents the passing on of the Lamp of Wisdom to every corner of the world to dispel the darkness of ignorance. It also signifies the awakening of one's inner wisdom. The burning of the wick and the melting of the candle reminds us of the impermanence and transience of all conditional things, including our own lives. The "Chuan Deng" song was sung as the big lotus candle was being passed round. Devotees also waved small LED lights at the same time.
The evening concluded with Swami's Divine Message and Arathi. Devotees then gathered to enjoy tea, homemade mooncakes and other snacks.
