90 Years of Sathya Sai

It was with much love, joy and gratitude that we celebrated the 90th Birthday of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on 23rd November.  We are truly blessed to have witnessed His glory and splendour during His sojourn on earth and to be part of His divine mission.

Our morning prayers began at 5.30 a.m. with the chanting of 21 Om's and Suprabhatam followed by bhajans.

In the evening, our programme began with a short video on our Centre activities over the years followed by the chanting of the Rudram Namakam and bhajans. Swami's Divine Message was delivered by Bro. Y.K. Lee, Centre Chairman.  The highlight of the evening was the lighting of Swami's birthday cake by a longtime devotee, Bro. Choong to the joyful singing of Swami's birthday song. The video "Love is His Message", a Radio Sai offering in celebration of Swami's 90th Birthday was also shown.  The evening concluded with Arathi at around 9.30 p.m. and a vegetarian dinner for all.

Service at The Lighthouse

In conjunction with Swami's 90th Birthday Celebrations, we served dinner at the Lighthouse on the evening of Friday, 20th November 2015.  Since 2003, The Lighthouse has become a drop-in centre for the poor and homeless who come for a meal and avail themselves of counselling services and basic medical care.  The vegetarian meal was home-cooked by a lady member of NED and we served a total of 70 people on this occasion.

Global Akhanda Bhajan 2015

Akhanda Bhajan commenced at 6 p.m. on Saturday, 14th November 2015 at Gelugor Centre with participation from the various Sai centres and bhajan units in Penang.  Bhajans concluded with arathi at 6 p.m. on Sunday, 15th November.

"The bhajans that are sung permeate the ether in the form of sound waves and fill the entire atmosphere. Thereby, the whole environment is purified. Breathing in this purified atmosphere, our hearts get purified. Reciting the Lord's name is a process of give and take. Singing the Lord's name should become an exercise in mutual sharing of joy and holiness. It should be remembered that the sounds we produce reverberate in the atmosphere. They remain permanently in the ether as waves and outlast the individual uttering the sounds."
